HouseMart Holds Holiday Food Drive

HAWAII ISLAND (November 2-3, 2013) – HouseMart Ace Hardware and Ben Franklin Crafts stores are doing a food drive, collecting canned goods during the weekend of November 2nd -3rd for the Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank. Customers that bring in at least 3 canned goods will be entered to win a $50 gift card from the store they donate cans to.

“HouseMart is a community service oriented company,” said Kurt Meguro, store manager of HouseMart Ace Hardware at Captain Cook. “Our focus is being helpful, whether it is customer service or helping within the community. With the holidays coming up, what better than to help the Food Basket. This is the time of year that the Food Basket really needs everyone’s support. We have a chance to support their cause and get some food out to those that need it.”

HouseMart is a family business originated from the small K. Kamitaki Store in Kahului, specializing in dry goods, fabrics and aloha shirts. In 1951, the second generation of the family was able to expand by acquiring its first Ben Franklin store. The family’s first Ace Hardware store opened at Hilo in 1984. Current third-generation owners Wayne and Guy Kamitaki, Paul Mizoguchi and Lynn Ushijima now operate six Ben Franklin Crafts stores and twenty-five Ace Hardware stores spanning over four states.
