(November 10, 2012) In a picturesque Maui night, underneath a canopy of stars dimly lighting the scene, our Ace Hardware team from Lahaina helped treat the local community of Kihei to a movie night Hawaiian style! Benefiting the Maui United Way, the Starlight Cinema event gave movie goers a chance to watch a unique movie of cultural significance to the islands, whilst enjoying their popcorn and refreshments without having to sit in a cooped up theater.
The movie, The First Glide, was a documentary on Stand Up Paddleboarding, its origins within Waikiki and Duke Kahanamoku, and how it has burst onto the Hawaii water sports scene.
As volunteers, our Ace team was counted on to help with all kinds of tasks including parking, registration, ushering, auctioning, and break down of the event. Martin Hussey, Assistant Store Manager at Lahaina, was Johnny-on-the spot, providing flashlights for guests as they left the pitch black area, leading them safely back to their cars. “It was a fun and very educational night, something different for folks, and a great way to raise funds for Maui United Way,” exclaimed Martin.
Our Ace team participated in Starlight Cinemas as part of our Caring for Communities project. Our goal is to make a positive impact in the community through volunteerism, with over half of our employees and donating over 1000 hours in service! Our team from Lahaina donated a total of 11 hours to MUW. Mahalo for helping to create a positive difference in your community!
