(October 7, 2012) HouseMart Ben Franklin Crafts and Celebrations teamed up with the Aloha United Way and Meadow Gold Dairy to create some refreshing fun at the 2012 Hawaii Children and Youth Day Festival. The annual event is held every first Sunday of October to recognize the accomplishments and contributions the youth have in Hawaii’s community.
On the steaming hot day, our trio from HouseMart Ben Franklin Crafts and Celebrations store were a cool sight to see as they were passing out chocolate milk from Meadow Gold dairy and informational packets from Aloha United Way filled with programs and activities that children and families could enjoy. They also had kids spin a wheel and answer milk trivia for prizes.
Joel K., from Celebrations said, “It was hard work baking in the sun, but it was fun! It was a nice way to give back.” Joel also felt that volunteering is important, saying, “It doesn’t take a lot to volunteer, even if it’s just an hour, you can help and it will make a difference. Events like this couldn’t happen without volunteers.”
The company was able to contribute 9 hours of volunteer time to the event. The volunteering effort is part of a company-wide volunteerism initiative called Caring for Communities, where employees give back to their local community by volunteering to help the United Way and its partner agencies through giving their time and efforts. Thank you to our HouseMart Ben Franklin Crafts and Celebrations team for making it a fun day for the kids!
